PSG have banned Lionel Messi from parading the World Cup around the Parc des Princes - after Argentina beat France in a thrilling final last month.

The Parisian giants were back in Ligue 1 action on Wednesday evening as they took on Angers. And Messi was part of the starting side for the French champions - who took the pitch in shirts paying tribute to Pele, who died over Christmas.

However, there was no sign of any celebration of Messi's World Cup triumph, with PSG fearful of the reaction. According to the French outlet La Parisien, PSG were worried Messi might be the subject of boos from his own fans.

Messi was central to Argentina beating France in the final, finding the net twice as the two sides found themselves level at 3-3 after 120 minutes.

France's hero had been Messi's club teammate Kylian Mbappe, whose hat trick had kept French hopes alive. Both Messi and Mbappe netted in the penalty shoot-out, but Argentina came out winners after Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni fluffed their lines.

And Mbappe was subject to taunts from the Argentine fans - and keeper Emi Martinez.

Messi was given a guard of honour by his PSG teammates when he returned to training after the turn of the New Year - but Mbappe wasn't present.

PSG's young superstar is yet to return to training following the World Cup, and La Parisian are reporting he is due to check back in training on Thursday morning.
