Rangers boss Michael Beale facing anxious injury wait over Hampden hero Kemar Roofe

RANGERS boss Michael Beale admits he’s facing an anxious injury wait over Hampden hero Kemar Roofe.

The striker bagged what proved to be the winner against Aberdeen to fire Gers into a Viaplay Cup final date with Celtic on February 26.

It was the former Leeds player’s first goal since April when he netted in his team’s Europa League win over Braga.

Roofe has suffered numerous injury problems since then – with the semi-final just his fourth appearance of the season.

And there was understandable concern when he had to come off in the second period of extra time clutching his shoulder.

With Antonio Colak also out injured just now, it’s the last thing Beale needed ahead of a midweek game at Kilmarnock.

And the Gers boss is keeping his fingers crossed that the situation with Roofe isn’t too serious.

He told Viaplay: “We won’t know how he is until he has a scan tomorrow but it was a pretty heavy landing on his shoulder.

“It’s not a dislocation, it’s just a heavy landing.

“So we have to hope for the best.

“With Antonio out just now and Kemar just coming back, we can’t catch a break there at the moment.”

Beale was happier with his team’s performance as they came from behind to book another Hampden appearance.

He added: “Obviously when your team goes behind you get a little bit anxious.

“I asked them at half-time to keep believing in the way that we play and I thought overall we were the more dominant team.

“I’m just delighted to win as I’ve been here before and come on the wrong end of the result.

“We’ll go away happy and get ready for the final next month.

“All in all it’s a group that’s had some tough moments this season and now they’re in a final.

“I’ve told them not to be anxious as in the last few weeks there have been moments when we’ve been behind and shown an unbelievable mentality and strength in sticking to our style of play and managed to turn results around.

“It would have been unjust if we hadn’t gone through today but credit to Aberdeen – I thought they were terrific in the game.”
