Chelsea 'test the water' with £65m transfer proposal for Moises Caicedo

According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, Boehly has already 'tested the water' with Brighton by offering a £65million proposal for Caicedo. The Seagulls have demanded a fee in excess of £75million to sell the 21-year-old in January despite having a strong relationship with Chelsea.

The Blues signed Marc Cucurella from Brighton in a £62million deal during the summer and want to reunite Caicedo with Potter at Stamford Bridge next. The Seagulls' position could be strengthened should Leandro Trossard leave the club in January with Arsenal having opened talks over a potential transfer for the Belgian forward.

Liverpool have held an interest in the Ecuadorian midfielder for a number of years, but are unwilling to match Brighton's current valuation. New Chelsea transfer director Paul Winstanley helped bring Caicedo to Brighton back in 2021 and now could be used to bring the talented youngster to Stamford Bridge this month.

Double injury boost ahead of Liverpool clash

Reece James and Ben Chilwell both featured in Chelsea's opening stages of training as Mykhailo Mudryk joined his teammates in front of the cameras after completing his £88million move from Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian winger travelled to London at the weekend but has not played a competitive match since the end of November and will be looking to build on his match fitness.

It will come as a big boost for Graham Potter that James is now involved in some form of team training, with Chilwell seeming to continue his good progress.

Chelsea set to receive £26m transfer boost as Edouard Mendy contract talks stall

A new goalkeeper is on the agenda for the summer with Brentford's David Raya emerging as a potential target, though the Blues are set to face competition from London rivals Tottenham. Raya could cost a fee in the region of £15-20million if Brentford are willing to sell their No.1 goalkeeper.

Since Potter's arrival, he has selected Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of Edouard Mendy following the Senegal international's poor form and injury problems. According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are ready to offload one of Kepa or Mendy in the summer.

The latter is more likely to leave the club after failing to agree a new contract with talks set to continue towards the end of the season. The 30-year-old is one of the lowest-paid players in the Chelsea squad and has attracted interest from AC Milan, Monaco and Nice.

Mendy is valued at €30million (£26.2m), according to CIES Football Observatory, with his current deal set to expire in 2025. Should the Senegalese keeper leave the club this summer for his market valuation, that would give Todd Boehly the funds to rival Spurs for Raya's signature.
