Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou gives Tokomi Iwata debut verdict as he hails side for not falling into Morton ‘trap’

ANGE POSTECOGLOU was left pleased with a lot of things after his Celtic side put their name in the hat for the Scottish Cup fifth round.

His side scored five past Morton to secure their place in tomorrow night's fifth round draw and the Hoops boss was proud of his side after they didn't allow themselves to get caught out by Dougie Imrie's Greenock men.

Postecogliu was able to give run outs to January arrivals Yuki Kobayashi, who made his second start in as many games, and Tokomi Iwata who made his Hoops bow in front of a packed out Celtic Park.

To boot, he was able to hand promising youngster Bosun Lawal his first outing with the game coasting to a more than comfortable finish.

Strikes from Aaron Mooy, Kyogo Furuhashi and David Turnbull secured a routine victory, and after a steady first showing from debutant Iwata, Postecoglou promised that there was more to come from the J-League player of the year who joined the club from Yokohoma Marino's at the start of the transfer window.

He told BBC Sport: "We made some changes at half time and that allowed Iwata to make his debut.

"He was good, I know Tomoki well he's still not quite there with the fitness levels that he want's to get too.

"But both he and Sead have missed a fair bit of football recently so it was good to get them 45-minutes and I thought that they both did well."

Postecoglou was pleased with the way his side went about their business and avoided any potential cup shocks as they comfortably disposed of the Greenock men.

He believes that the Hoops stuck to their principles throughout, even though the goals dried up in the second half.

He continued: "I thought that the performance was really professional.

"I thought the lads stuck to our principles, worked really hard and against opponents like this you can fall into a trap.

"To avoid that you need to work hard and we worked hard for the full game.

"We scored some goals and i'm pleased overall."
