Rangers ‘to trial’ midfielder from UGANDA as two other under-20s fly in to train at Premiership clubs

The Gers are said to be one of three Scottish clubs who will hand trials to youngsters from Uganda's international youth squads.

Dundee United already have Sadat Anaku from the east African country and he is set to be joined by a fellow countryman at Tannadice.

Ivan Irinimbabazi was given permission to leave Uganda's under-20 squad to fly into Scotland, via Dubai and Manchester.

Also on Saturday's flight, say Kawowo Sports, were forwards Hakim Kiwanuka, Alex Yiga and their agent.

Rangers' Academy will take a look at Yiga this week the report claims, with St Mirren also running the rule over Kiwanuka.

A creative midfielder at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Soccer Academy, 16-year-old Yiga said: "I will give my all to make sure that I succeed and I am retained in Scotland.

"This is a big opportunity that I have been yearning and working for in my life.

"I thank my mother, coaches, Festoweb sports management and everybody who has contributed a brick to my football career.”

He has featured for his national side's under-17 squad and, if signed, will join compatriot Christian Mulindwa in the Ibrox youth ranks.

Rangers moved for the former Brentford kid last April.

The club has yet to recruit to the first-team in this month's transfer window but has added to the Academy with FIVE youngsters signing on, including ex-Chelsea defender Alex Kpakpe.

Michael Beale is expecting to announce a top-team signing this week, with Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell on the brink of sealing a move to Scotland.

There is also interest in Morgan Whittaker of Swansea and Standard Liege outcast Nicolas Raskin.

Beale said: "You can expect to see something before the end of the window but I’m not going to say it’s definitely those guys.

“We’re going to bring some players in and one or two might go the other way.

“We will be strengthening, players will come back. Antonio [Colak] was on the bench today if we needed a penalty or needed five minutes.

“If I can get Antonio fit and playing with Alfredo I think it will add a different dimension.

“Scott Wright came on tonight and thought he was excellent.

Ryan Kent and Fashion [Sakala] are giving me every single ounce of energy they've got. In time new players will come in, we'll get more players fit and we'll look stronger."

Whittaker was left out of the Swansea squad against QPR - had he played he would have been unable to feature for another club this season.

Beale added: "I didn’t see that Whittaker wasn’t in the Swansea squad. Russell Martin said he would be."
