Diego Carlos, Digne, McGinn - Aston Villa injury list and return dates ahead of Leicester City
A look at those on the treatment table at Aston Villa ahead of the next Premier League fixture against Leicester City on February 4
Aston Villa’s sparkling run of form under Unai Emery sees them just three points off sixth-placed Brighton. The head coach was delighted with Villa’s performance against Southampton at the weekend which made it five wins in seven since taking over.
Villa will now have 12 days to prepare for Leicester City (February 4) as we get set for the final 18 games of the campaign. Here’s the rundown on Villa’s current injury list with players now close to a return to action.
Jed Steer
Injury: Achilles
Likely return date: A return in February is the aim for Villa’s back-up goalkeeper
What Emery said: “Jed Steer is starting to train with us in one or two weeks.”

Ludwig Augustinsson
Injury: Ankle
Likely return date: Quite possibly played his last game in a Villa shirt after the arrival of Moreno.
What Emery said: “I spoke with Augustinsson about the possibility of leaving – he is on loan here from Sevilla – because I wanted to sign a different profile, trying to be more offensive.”
Lucas Digne
Injury: Shoulder
Likely return date: No surgery required which is positive. Digne will eye a return against Leicester on February 4.
What Emery said: “One week or two weeks, I’m not quite sure.”
Diego Carlos
Injury: Achilles
Likely return date: A return sometime in February is the aim for the Brazilian.
What Emery said: “Diego Carlos is getting better but it will be a month or two before he is with us.”
John McGinn
Injury: Hamstring
Likely return date: The captain will be hopeful of a return against Leicester City on February 4.
What Emery said: “John McGinn is not ready but he’s working. He’s doing training but individually and, given his progression, he could be ready for the next match against Leicester City.”
What McGinn said: “I’m bored. It’s the first time I’ve done my hamstring, at 28, which I’m not getting used to. But it feels alright, hopefully in a few weeks I’ll be back.”
