IF you saw Craig Gordon's horrific double leg break last month, you'd have been forgiven for thinking he'd never play football again.

Not only was the nasty nature of the injury enough to put one off their dinner, it was enough to put a footballer off the game itself.

But the Scotland no1 is built differently (pardon the pun) and is already sweating it out in the gym barely a month after being stretchered off the pitch and rushed to hospital.

Gordon clashed with Steven Fletcher during Hearts' match against Dundee Utd on Boxing Day as both players challenged for a 50/50 ball.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper came off worse and has been duly ruled out for the rest of the season, causing problems for both Hearts and Scotland.

But he's made of stern stuff and revealed on his Instagram account that he has been testing out his leg in the club gym.

Gordon posted videos of him doing leg presses and single-leg hip raises.

He also showed off his legs working on an exercise bike - with a clearly visible scar around his knee, too.

Gordon captioned the video simply, with the words: "One month on."

Hearts also posted footage of the keeper in the gym and captioned theirs with: "One month after a double leg break: Craig Gordon", alongside the applause emoji and the muscle emoji.

The comments section of Gordon's post was full of supportive messages from fans.

One commented: "Go on big man."

"Wow, that's impressive!" said another.

Another called him a "Legend!"

And a further fan said: "What a machine."

Teammates like Josh Ginnelly and Zander Clark also showed their support.

The injury happened just before Gordon turned 40 but he didn't let it dampen his spirits too much as he offered a reflective outlook on his recovery not long after the horrible injury occured.

He said back then: "I’ve played this game long enough to know that I can’t take anything for granted, and when I’ve been ‘written off’ with injuries before, every game is one more than at times I thought I might get.

"I know what lies ahead as I have walked this road before and I’ll do it again, albeit on crutches for now.

"Our medical team did a great job on the pitch. The staff and surgeons at Ninewells Hospital who performed my surgery on Christmas Day, and all those who looked after me were brilliant.

"The club, my team-mates and everyone who has sent messages for my family and I, you have all helped in giving me the best start to my recovery and I’m truly grateful.

"40 tomorrow, I’ve not done too bad considering! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I’ll see you soon, CG."
