Amadou Haidara has already expressed his admiration for Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard amid reported interest from the Reds.

Anfield continues to be a destination that midfielders across Europe are linked to with the midfield department continuing to come under scrutiny. Jurgen Klopp has been subject to immense pressure to bolster the middle of the pitch, this month, as the clamour for additions reaches an all-time high.

In a report from the Independent, it has been reported that Brighton have had an offer rejected for the Haidara. The 24-year-old currently plies his trade in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.

Marco Rose faces the possibility of losing one of his key midfield cogs but, according to the same report, the German side isn't looking to sell this month.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been mooted as potential destinations for a midfielder who reportedly has a clause which allows him to leave the club in the summer.

Haidara, who has made 133 appearances for Die Roten Bullen, has already spoken highly of Gerrard and how he has tried to mimic aspects of the scousers game into his.

"I loved Yaya Touré," he told the Guardian in 2021. "He could do everything with and without the ball.

"I also loved Steven Gerrard. Everything he did was amazing. I love to watch his videos and try to take things from his game. There are also players now. Marco Verratti is amazing with the ball. Casemiro is great. But I need to look at myself and be the player I am."

Gerrard spoke out about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp's midfield problem prior to their goalless draw with Chelsea. The 42-year-old described the engine room as "stale" and Haidara has already told the German manager what his best position is after teasing a midfield rebuild.

"I feel at my best when I’m in position 6 or 8. But last season the coach [Julian Nagelsmann] used to put me a bit everywhere," he told RedBull.com in 2021. "I wanted to show him he could trust me in any position, and that helped me a lot."
