Wolverhampton Wanderers are finally set to sign Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes after an agreement was reached with Flamengo on Thursday.

Wolves are expecting Gomes to jet in early next week to become their sixth signing of the January transfer window. Matheus Cunha, Mario Lemina, Pablo Sarabia, Craig Dawson and goalkeeper Daniel Bentley have also checked in.

The club's hierarchy are now shifting their efforts to finding homes for some of their fringe players. Fabio Silva's loan at Anderlecht was cancelled earlier this week, and he has joined Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven until the end of the season.

Wolves used Silva's switch to PSV to bring Ki-Jana Hoever back from his unsuccessful spell in the Netherlands. Hoever only made five Eredivisie appearances under Ruud van Nistelrooy whilst at PSV.

“We’ve been able to bring Ki back while they contribute to his wages for the rest of the season and we can pick a new club for him for the second part of the season, based purely on a football reason," said Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs. “We can pick the best club who are going to give him good minutes and the right style of football, without any other thoughts needing to come into play.”

Hoever is now set to join Championship side Stoke City on loan for the remainder of the season, as per The Telegraph. He will join Wolves teammate Matija Sarkic, who completed a loan move to the Potteries on Wednesday.
