Lyon owner John Textor admits he is 'disappointed' to lose out on Joao Gomes, but has wished the Brazilian well for his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Gomes is due in the UK next week to undergo a medical ahead of signing for Wolves after Flamengo accepted their €17 million offer. Lyon gazumped Wolves' bid to sign Gomes, but the midfielder had already given his word to the Premier League club that he'd join them.

Textor has tweeted: "…was too late for @GomesOficial08. All my powers of persuasion (self-mocking) could not alter this young man’s sense of honor. He gave his word to @Wolves and he won’t deviate. I’m disappointed, but so impressed by a gracious young man with an incredible future. Bon chance Joao!"

Lopetegui has signed Mario Lemina, Pablo Sarabia, Daniel Bentley, Matheus Cunha and Craig Dawson so far this month.

Wolves' spending in this transfer window will reach £80 million after Gomes' move is confirmed, with Cunha costing over half of that figure having made three appearances for his new team, which activated his permanent move from Atletico Madrid.
