Rangers star Ianis Hagi’s dad Gheorghe gives his response to Galatasaray transfer rumours

GHEORGHE HAGI has told his former club Galatasaray they would be wasting their time with any ambitious move for his son Ianis because he's happy at Rangers.

Hagi junior - who is in line to make his Ibrox comeback after a year out today - was born in Istanbul and his father was a hero at the club after the former Real Madrid and Barcelona star helped them win the UEFA Cup and later managed them too.

He is now in charge of Romanian League title challengers Farul Constanta.

Turkish reports have suggested Galatasaray are desperate to land Hagi junior, who has battled back from a serious knee injury that kept him out for over a year after a Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion.

However, Romanian icon Hagi senior has emphatically told Galatasaray they have no chance of persuading his son, who only recently signed a new deal until 2025, to move back to Istanbul.

He said: "There is no question of Ianis leaving Rangers.

"I would be happy for Ianis to arrive at Galatasaray at some point, but at this moment there is absolutely no chance.

"I know he is loved and wanted at Rangers very much and he won't be going anywhere."
