Nicky Clark appeals Rangers red card as Callum Davidson convinced Willie Collum got it wrong
The referee dismissed the Saints striker for a challenge on Ryan Jack which left followers of the Perth side incensed.
St Johnstone have appealed the straight red card Nicky Clark received in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Rangers.
Willie Collum dismissed the Saints striker for a challenge on Ryan Jack which left followers of the Perth side incensed and believed the man in the middle made the wrong despite having video help from VAR. And Callum Davidson believes the evidence to appeal is compelling after studying the incident.
“Overall I think VAR has been a success, it has been good so far - but the weekend was one I just didn’t understand. We are not happy but we will appeal it because it didn’t go to VAR so I think there will be grounds for an appeal on it. Nicky was pulled so was losing his balance and he pulled his leg away. I don’t think he caught Ryan Jack at all, it was a knee-to-knee.
“It was hard to see it from the angles we’ve got but there was no malice, there was no intent to hurt anyone. If he’s lunged in at Jack with his feet up we’d say it was a red card but I don’t think it was.”
