Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes for around £15million.
The 21-year-old joins Wolves from Flamengo, where he has made more than 100 appearances since making his debut two years ago. During his time with Flamengo, Gomes won the Brazilian top flight in 2020 before completing a Copa do Brazil and Copa Libertadores double last year.
Flamengo decided to sell Gomes to Wolves last week after reneging on their initial deal when Lyon gazumped the Premier League team’s offer. Gomes informed Lyon owner John Textor that he wanted to seal a move to Wolves during face-to-face discussions last Tuesday.

Gomes has penned a five-and-a-half year contract at Molineux to become Wolves’ sixth signing of the January transfer window. Julen Lopetegui has also added Daniel Bentley, Craig Dawson, Mario Lemina, Pablo Sarabia and Matheus Cunha to his squad.
He will compete for a place in Wolves’ midfield with Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes, Joao Moutinho and Lemina and could make his Premier League debut against Liverpool on Saturday.
