Wolverhampton Wanderers aren’t expecting to make any first-team additions today, with the focus now turning to finding homes for Julen Lopetegui’s fringe players.

Wolves wrapped up the signing of Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes, 21, from Flamengo yesterday. Gomes has signed a five-and-a-half year contract, with the option of an additional 12 months, to become Lopetegui’s sixth signing of the January transfer window.

The club has committed to spending £75million in total on Matheus Cunha, Mario Lemina, Pablo Sarabia, Craig Dawson, Daniel Bentley and Gomes. Wolves aren’t anticipating any further signings after making the six additions Lopetegui believes were required to balance his squad.

Wolves are now looking to loan some players out, namely Yerson Mosquera - who has been starved of first team football since he joined the club 18 months ago. Sporting director Matt Hobbs is especially keen to ensure Colombian defender Mosquera finds a suitable home.

“He’s been a victim of circumstances, so for us it’s important to get him out on loan,” said Hobbs following Dawson’s arrival 10 days ago. “The manager has real belief in him and the tools he has. We brought him in, and he was unlucky with his two hamstring injuries, and then it wasn’t a great time to drop an inexperienced defender back into the team.”

Mosquera was all set to move to France at the end of the summer window, only to see his move scuppered by West Ham’s refusal to sell Dawson at the time. The 21-year-old hasn’t played a first team game this season.

Wolves have agreed to loan Chem Campbell to League One side Wycombe Wanderers for the rest of the season, and they have similar decisions to make over Dexter Lembikisa and Joe Hodge.

Lembikisa and Hodge have stepped up to first team duties in recent months and Lopetegui has been impressed by them. However, now that Wolves are out of the cups, Lembikisa and Hodge will find first team minutes hard to come by.

Nelson Semedo and Jonny Castro Otto are ahead of Lembikisa, 19, in the pecking order, while the signing of Gomes will directly impact Hodge’s playing time. Wolves could be persuaded to loan out the duo if an offer arrives which suits all parties.
