Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills believes the Premier League strugglers should be wary about a potential return to Elland Road for Marcelo Bielsa, speaking to talkSPORT (6 February, 4.30pm).
It’s all too easy to look back on Bielsa’s Elland Road spell with a sepia-tinged nostalgia. But while the enigmatic Argentina is most certainly and very-much deservedly a legendary figure in West Yorkshire, do not forget how his departure came about some 12 months ago.
In Leeds’ last five games under Bielsa, they lost four while conceding a Premier League-record 20 goals. And Mills believes that appointing a coach with such a risky, bordering on reckless approach could be suicidal in the midst of a gripping relegation battle.

Would Marcelo Bielsa return to Leeds United?
“He’s only just got back on the plane hasn’t he after speaking to Everton! He might come back from Buenos Aires perhaps and have a quick meeting,” Mills quips, Bielsa seeing talks with the Toffees fall through recently.
“I don’t think that would be the right appointment.
“‘Bielsa-ball’ was tremendous. Fantastic! But it does have its flaws. (Bielsa’s style) is not what you need to get out of a relegation battle. That’s what got them into that relegation battle in the first place!”
Everton, after negotiating with Bielsa, appointed Sean Dyche as Frank Lampard’s replacement. And they were rewarded with a much-improved display in Saturday’s dramatic 1-0 triumph over league leaders Arsenal; James Tarkowski heading home a Dwight McNeil corner to complete a routine made in Burnley but played out on Merseyside.
“You look at Sean Dyche at Everton,” Mills adds. “And you think; ‘Well, he is going to make them very, very solid’. If Bielsa comes in, (Leeds) might score one or two more, but then they are going to concede loads.
“Is that going to improve them? I don’t think so.”
According to 90Min, former U23 coach Carlos Corberan is the current frontrunner following Jesse Marsch’s sacking. Corberan is, however, just a few months into a long-term deal at West Brom.
