Ex-Liverpool star Emre Can scored from the half-way line following an absolute howler from the opposition's keeper.

Can now plays for Borussia Dortmund who went up against VfL Bochum in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday night. And the German midfielder gave the away side the lead at the Vonovia Stadium when he pounced on a blooper from Bochum stopper Manuel Riemann in the round of 16 clash.

Riemann rushed out of his box to try and clear the incoming ball from harm's way but his clumsy attempt fell right at the feet of the quick-witted Can, who took one touch of the ball from 50 yards out before toe-poking into the empty net.

The ball bounced a few times before rolling into the goal as Riemann frantically tried to rush back to his line, along with his Bochum team-mates who also tried in vain to keep Can's effort out. The bold goal caused a stir amongst fans on Twitter who flocked to the platform to share their thoughts on Can's sublime strike.

One fan scoffed: "The ugliest 50 meter goal in history of 50 meter goals." Then another user speaking on Riemann's slow reaction said: "The goalie is running like he is stuck in a dream."

And a third supporter quipped: "Great assist Riemann," with a fire emoji. Before a fourth user mused: "This goal is very funny, the keeper is running like snail."

Liverpool fans will have fond memories of Can - including that goal against Watford - after he made 167 appearances for the Reds before moving to Juventus on a free transfer in 2018, followed by his switch to £21m switch to Dortmund in 2020.

Now Reds fans will hope that Can is giving their top transfer target and Dortmund peer Jude Bellingham good reviews of the club ahead of the midfielder's potential switch to Merseyside this summer.
