Leeds manager news: Orta dealt blow as 47-year-old not interested in new job until the summer

Leeds manager news has been a hot topic in recent days after Jesse Marsch was sacked on Monday.

The likes of Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot have been mentioned as strong contenders for the vacancy, while Ralph Hasenhuttl has also been named as a potential option.

According to The Times, Marcelo Gallardo is also on the shortlist at Elland Road, although a story emerging from his native Argentina does not bode well for Leeds.

What’s the story?

Well, Victor Orta – Director of Football at Elland Road – will seemingly find it very hard to convince the South American to replace Marsch.

La Pagina Millonaria believe Gallardo is currently enjoying a break from management, and has no intention of taking a new job until the summer.

A move to England could happen at that stage of the year, as the South American news outlet mention that a move to Europe seems inevitable for the 47-year-old following his success at River Plate.

Gallardo left the Argentinian giants as one of the greatest coaches in their history, guiding them to 14 pieces of silverware across his eight years in charge.

After nearly a decade of managing such a huge club, you can understand why the Buenos Aires-born tactician wants a long rest.

So, if it isn’t to be Gallardo, who will replace Marsch?

At the time of writing, the aforementioned Iraola is currently the favourite – according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 40-year-old seems the most likely to replace Marsch at this point, with the Daily Mail adding that Victor Orta has flown to Spain to hold talks with the Rayo Vallecano boss.

Voetbal International in the Netherlands add that Leeds have done plenty of research on Feyenoord boss Slot, so the Dutchman also seems to be a leading candidate.

Be sure to keep an eye on this developing situation, as more information should emerge shortly.
