After just 94 days in charge, Jones was given his marching orders on Sunday morning having accumulated one Premier league win in eight games.

The final straw came on Saturday afternoon when Saints somehow managed to throw away a 1-0 lead to lose to relegation-rivals Wolves. Less than 24 hours after the defeat, Jones was gone.

The former Luton boss had already long lost support from the bulk of Saints fans and that was reflected once again with the cacophony of boos that greeted the final whistle at St Mary's.
