St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson reveals why upcoming derby against Dundee United is the biggest game of the season

CALLUM DAVIDSON insists the Tayside derby clash with Dundee United is his side’s biggest game of the season.

St Johnstone have struggled recently, and the Perth gaffer is desperate to avoid being caught up in a relegation dogfight like the Arabs.

Saints will be backed by a huge travelling support at Tannadice, and Davidson said: “The amount of fans we take there is always fantastic and this weekend is a huge game for us.

“I’ve been telling the players we have a mini-season now, we have a run of games we want to pick up as many points as we can and see where it takes us.

“The first aim is to get as far away from the bottom of the league as possible and then look up.

“We had a tough run with a lot of games against the Old Firm, but we are through that now and we want to put a run of results together.
“To pick up the points we need we have to keep doing the right things.”

Davidson, right, hopes key man Graham Carey can inspire his side to a vital victory on Saturday. He added: “What I love about Graham is that he never shies away from taking the ball.

“He always tries to make things happen.

“He’s got the courage and belief in his ability to get on the ball and try to help the team.

“That’s the kind of attitude you want, you need players who are willing to step up and try things.

“Sometimes they won’t come off but you have to have the bravery to want the ball.

“Graham will be a big player for us until the end of the season.”

Elsewhere, Motherwell captain Liam Kelly reveals 'horrible' dressing room atmosphere after the sacking of Stevie Hammell.

Hammell was relieved of his duties on Saturday after the Scottish Cup defeat to Raith, while only winning two out of 18 games.

Well captain Kelly acknowledges Monday was a “horrible” day but with a huge match against St Mirren tonight they can't feel sorry for themselves.

He said: “The dressing-room atmosphere was horrible. It was a difficult place to be on Monday.

“We were well aware of what we had caused."
