GORDON STRACHAN is a shock climber in the market to be the next manager of Aberdeen.
The former Celtic and Scotland boss was one of the heroes of the Dons’ Gothenburg team.
He’s been keeping himself busy with a sporting director role at Dundee while his son Gavin has a high-profile coaching appointment at Celtic.
Aberden boss Dave Cormack said only yesterday that he was slamming the breaks on the appointment process as the club awaits the arrival of Alan Burrows as chief executive.
That’s good news for interim boss Barry Robson, who will remain in charge for the foreseeable future – including the weekend clash with the Hoops in Glasgow.
But Strachan would be a heavyweight experienced option for a side which have been burned by their last two appointments in the form of Stephen Glass and Jim Goodwin.

We told you how experienced Dutch boss Ruud Brood had emerged as a shock contender for the post.
The 60-year-old was assistant manager to Phillip Cocu at PSV Eindhoven and helped them win the Eredivisie in 2015 before he branched out as a manager three years later.
He was in charge of NAC Breda and Den Haag before he was sacked last year and was in the running to become Ajax’s assistant manager last month to Alfred Schreuder, before they axed him.
But he has drifted out to 12/1 with bookmakers McBookie today, who wrote on their Twitter account: “Move for Gordon Strachan for the Aberdeen job.

“He is into 5/1 from 16/1 today.”
Other contenders with the bookies include former Dons manager Derek McInnes, with Chris Wilder and Robson the joint favourites for the role at 4/1.
That’s despite SunSport understanding that Wilder, 55, has now decided the job is NOT for him – after the Dons had a discussion with the one-time LMA Manager of the Year’s agent.
