FT: Tottenham 2-0 West Ham

After wins for Southampton and Everton dragged West Ham into the relegation on Saturday, the Hammers were unable to respond this evening as they fell to a 13th Premier League defeat of the season.

David Moyes' side now sit 18th in the league table, one point behind the Blues.

Rosenior heaps praise on Everton loanee

Speaking to the Lancashire Post after the game, Hull City manager Liam Roseniorheaped praise on Everton loanee Tom Cannon for his performance against the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

"You only win games of football when you have a consistent level of performance. Particularly in the first half some of our build up from the back, they couldn't live with us. On another day I think we win this game and are out of sight by half time.

“I thought Tom Cannon was outstanding, one of the best we've played against by far. Alfie Jones and Sean McLoughlin, with the way we play, I trust them to deal with that. When you're that much in control and dominant, the manager of the opposition is bound to change something."

Neal Maupay steps in during Goodison brawl as Everton ball boy helps Blues seal win

Seamus Coleman was at the heart of almost everything as Everton pulled off a vital win over relegation rivals Leeds United.

He was involved in heated half-time and full-time rows with travelling players and staff and, of course, scored the sublime match-winning goal in between those flashpoints. He was not the only figure in Royal Blue who was pivotal to a win that holds huge significance though.

Nor was he the only one to show the fight that had been so desperately missing at Anfield on Monday, with every single Blues player getting involved in a scrap just before half-time after Dwight McNeil and Tyler Adams came together. In a match that was high on drama and intensity, here are a few moments that deserve more attention.

Conor Coady's birthday bash

Everton defender Conor Coady carried on the celebrations from the Blues' important 1-0 win over Leeds United at a party for his 30th birthday.

The on-loan defender, who reaches the milestone birthday on February 25, featured for Sean Dyche's side yesterday as they picked up their second win of the 51-year-old's era.

Seamus Coleman fired home from a tight angle past a bewildered Illan Meslier, which proved to be the game's only goal.

Man United vs Leicester

Could Leicester be dragged into the battle at the bottom of the Premier League? I think so, especially if they lose against Man United in the match that has just kicked off.

Leicester are 14th in the league, but just three points ahead of Everton.

United have made changes to their side as they take on Barcelona on Thursday before the Carabao Cup final, but are strong favourites to beat Leicester.

Joe Thomas' analysis

Right-back of the net

Back in 2014 when Roberto Martinez still had hair and was steering Everton to their highest-ever Premier League points total while Amadou Onana was not yet a teenager, Seamus Coleman was on his way to plundering a career high seven goals but while time and tide wait for no man and the 34-year-old is no longer as prolific in the opposition half, the player who now captains the Blues showed he is still the man for the big occasion. It’s been over a year since Coleman last found the net – since Leeds United were last at Goodison Park in fact, when he put his side on their way to a 3-0 win with a fearless diving header – but after drawing a blank in back to back campaigns in which he played 30 plus matches in both in 2019/20 and 2020/21, the skipper has shown once more that he’s not done yet.

Even if he hadn’t had netted his wonder-goal here, Coleman was immense at both ends of the pitch and demonstrated how he’s every inch the modern full-back having revolutionised the position at the club after replacing Tony Hibbert, the man who holds the Everton record among outfield players for the most appearances without scoring (328). In truth, when Coleman found himself in an advanced position before his goal he was Everton’s furthest player forward and had no options to pick out in the box so after having a look up, he was well within his rights to have a shot.

Next up...

It's another home game and a very winnable fixture for Everton up next as they welcome Aston Villa to Goodison Park on Saturday.

Dyche has a 100% record as Everton boss at home and a win would make it three wins from four games. That would've seemed like a dream to Blues fans a month ago.

The Blues are currently out of the bottom three and they intend to stay there.

Florentino Luis 'loved' by Everton

Everton have sent scouts to watch Benfica star Florentino Luis as the Blues 'are in love' with the midfielder, according to reports.

The Blues failed to bring in any reinforcements in the January transfer window, but new boss Sean Dyche has worked wonders by recording two wins from three games.

Despite Dyche's magic so far, Everton need new signings in the summer and the Portuguese midfielder has caught the eye of the Blues hierarchy.

Everton scouts were at Benfica's Champions League win over Club Brugge last week, according to Record (via Sport Witness). The Blues took ‘very positive notes’ from what they saw of the 23-year-old, who has a €120m (£106m) release clause included in his terms.

How it all looks

There's been plenty of change down at the foot of the Premier League table so let's have a look at it.

Everton have climbed to 16th with their win over Leeds, but are just one point in front of 18th placed West Ham - who play Tottenham today.

Bournemouth's win at Wolves moved them to 17th while Leeds dropped to 19th. Southampton's shock 1-0 win at Chelsea kept them at the bottom, but are now just three points from safety.

In 15th sit Wolves, just two points above Everton. You'd think any three of those sides will be the ones to drop into the Championship.

An exciting and nervy few months to come.

Sean Dyche makes Seamus Coleman admission

Sean Dyche spoke about Seamus Coleman's performance yesterday.

Dyche said: "I don't need to say too much about Seamus. He knows the great professional he is. I know he has had a lot of managers and I think you will find virtually every one has either played him or said what a great pro he is, so I don't think there is any worry there. And he deserves it. He has got that edge, he plays with that edge and that is key for me. If your fitness is good then your age is not relevant for me, it's that edge and he has certainly got that. Their [Leeds'] wide men have been playing really well, I've seen them a few times and they have been playing really well and he locked that down very early in the game and of course it was a fantastic win and fantastic finish to win us the match."

What a win!

What a relief to come away from yesterday with all three point as Sean Dyche now makes it two wins from three games in charge of Everton.

The Blues secured a vital 1-0 win over Leeds to climb out of the bottom three and put the Yorkshire side in it.

The here, of all people, was Seamus Coleman as he hit a wonderful strike to catch everyone off guard and give Everton their second home win in a row.
