It’s been eight weeks since Jambos captain Gordon suffered that horrific double leg break in the Premiership clash with Dundee United.

But despite his advancing years – in football terms, at least – and nature of the injury, Gordon has been positive about his chances of making a big comeback.

Less than two months on, he’s walking unaided without crutches and says it’s been a good start to his recovery.

Just a few weeks ago, Gordon stunned fans by returning to the gym barely a month on from the shocking moment he collided with former Scotland pal Steven Fletcher.

With a visible scar on his knee, Gordon posted videos to his social media showing him already starting to rebuild strength in his legs.

And he spoke positively about his ongoing recovery as he joined the Sky Sports team for live coverage of the clash between his Hearts teammates and Motherwell at Fir Park.

He said: “It’s going alright. I’ve started quite well, I’m eight weeks into it. It’s eight weeks today since my operation.

“As you can see, no crutches.

“I’m able to walk about and it’s been a good start but I know I’ve got an awful long way still to go.”

Gordon also reflected on the moment he sustained the sickening injury.

He admits he knew instantly it was broken – but that his focus instantly turned to how long it would take him to get back.

Gordon added: “I knew straight away I’d broken my leg. I said that to the physios when they came on.

“I was immediately thinking how long it’d take to get back.

“I knew there were Scotland games in March and I thought ‘well if it’s only one bone then I might be able to get back for that.’

“Unfortunately, it was a lot more severe than what I thought lying there and it will take me a lot longer to get back from this one.”
