The faith shown in Marcus Rashford by Erik ten Hag is what has led to the striker's massive turnaround in form.

That's according to former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira who believes the new manager has helped Rashford rediscover his confidence. The striker struggled last season, ending it with his lowest tally since becoming a regular in the first team.

But he has bounced back in some style this time around and with 26 goals to his name has already surpassed his highest total in a single campaign. With nine assists as well, Rashford has become an integral part of Ten Hag's constantly improving side.

Pereira, who left Old Trafford for good after 10 years with the club in the summer, has explained the difference he's seen in his former teammate. "I've known Marcus for a very, very long time," the Brazilian told ESPN. "He's a great guy and I think the difference this season is the manager has shown a lot of faith in him and given him a lot of confidence, just letting him play his game. That's what he's doing.

"He's showing what he can do on the pitch, he's free of injuries and he's enjoying every moment, You can see that in the way he plays. For us, it's something not good but we have to try to deal with that."

Pereira will be back at United for the first time since his departure on Sunday as United take on Fulham in the FA Cup. It's a game the 27-year-old can't wait for.

"I'll have mixed emotions," Pereira added. "It's a difficult game but I'm happy to play against Manchester United. It will be my first time back and feeling that atmosphere. I've never been there as a visitor so it will be something new. They have a lot of confidence.

"They're playing really, really well but sometimes when you're that confident it's not good as well. We know we have to work very, very hard to win against them but we will do everything and try to play the perfect game."
