There’s a feel-good factor swirling all around Villa Park and Bodymoor Heath right now and it’s down to one man: Unai Emery.

The Basque has dramatically transformed Aston Villa across his four-month spell in charge, with Villa now having an outside chance of Europa Conference League qualification should results continue from now until the end of the season.

Villa’s non-internationals - 12 in total - have been granted some extra days off this week with the players enjoying some time with their families. Villa do, though, have a friendly booked in with Joey Barton’s Bristol Rovers on Friday (March 24) with Diego Carlos expected to get some minutes following his return from injury.

Elsewhere, Ollie Watkins was snubbed again by England boss Gareth Southgate who, on Monday, opted against further call-ups despite the withdrawals of Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford due to injury.

Over in France, Morgan Sanson has been named as one of the signings of the January window by L’Equipe given his star showings for loan club Strasbourg.

To off-field matters and Villa have put forward plans to introduce a new terrace area at the top of the Holte End steps. It forms part of the ongoing improvements to Villa Park in line with the club’s £100m redevelopment of the North Stand and surrounding area.
