Gerard Pique insists he's 'very happy' with 23-year-old girlfriend after Shakira split

The 36-year-old ex-Spanish international split up with the mother of his kids last year and announced his relationship with his 23-year-old girlfriend at the beginning of the year

Gerard Pique has broken his silence after splitting up with long-term beau Shakira last year.

Pique and Shakira split back in June 2022, over rumours the ex-Barcelona star had been unfaithful to the Colombian singer. Shakira, 46, recently released a new song, Shakira Bzrp Music Sessions 53, where she seemingly name-dropped Pique's new partner Clara Chia Marti.

According to ShowNews Today, Shakira discovered Pique had been unfaithful when she discovered a jar of strawberry jam in the pair's kitchen.

The 45-year-old knew their two sons Sasha, 10, and Milan, seven, didn't like strawberry jam, so she concluded somebody else had been in the house. Shakira then went on to reference the jam in her April music video, Te Felicito.

The former Barcelona centre-back has finally spoken out following the vicious split with the mother of his two children as he spoke to Spanish outlet El País. The 36-year-old, who retired earlier this season, said: "I keep doing what I want," he said, according to a translation published by E! News.

"The day I die, I will look back and hope I have always done what I wanted. I want to be faithful to myself. I’m not going to spend money cleaning up my image.

"The people that I love and care about are the ones who know me. The rest isn’t important to me.

"I spend my energy on being with my loved ones and giving them what I have. I’m very happy. There have been changes in my life and I have known how to preserve happiness."

Clara is a PR student, having worked for Pique's events production company, Kosmos. The pair had been snapped together in public heading to a wedding together on the Costa Brava in Catalonia, last August.

The snaps reportedly left Shakira fuming, who claimed she had made a pact with Pique not to go official with new partners for at least one year after they separated.
