Tottenham in Borna Sosa talks and Stuttgart find £22m star’s replacement

Borna Sosa is reportedly in talks to join Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur and Stuttgart have already identified a replacement for their Bundesliga assist-machine.

Ivan Perisic may have marked his debut season at Spurs with five league assists but the numbers, many Tottenham fans will tell you, do not quite distract from what has been an underwhelming run of form from a man who recently celebrated his 34th birthday.

The departure of Antonio Conte – who championed Perisic’s arrival following their time together at Inter Milan – raises potential questions about the Croatian’s future in North London too. Especially with BILD reporter Christian Falk claiming, in his Caught Offside column, that Tottenham have opened talks to sign another left-footed wideman who made his name in German football.

The £22 million-rated Sosa, almost a decade Perisic’s junior, has set up 29 goals since the beginning of 2020/21. His wonderful delivery from the flanks has been likened to David Beckham.

Should Harry Kane stick around, Spurs’ number 10 could forge a fearsome partnership with a man who could land a powerball on a sixpence from two streets away.

Tottenham Hotspur like Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa

Stuttgart are bottom of the table. The prospect of relegation, plus their ongoing financial concerns, means Sosa is all-but certain to depart; the man himself indicating that a fresh start at Tottenham is something that would appeal to him.

“This summer could be the time for a new breakthrough,” Dalmatinski Portal quotes Sosa; a star performer as Croatia finished third at the Qatar World Cup.

“I hope to stay healthy until the end of the season. And I hope to be able to come to an agreement with the club. Personally, I would like to experience the Premier League once. It is the best league in the world.”

And Stuttgart, Sky say, are leaving nothing to chance.

The Schwabians want Derrick Kohn of second-tier outfit Hannover 96. The former Germany U19 international is considering a summer switch of his own. Though Kohn would have big boots to fill at the Mercedes Benz Arena.

“Borna’s said himself David Beckham is his role model,” Stuttgart’s former sporting director Sven Mislintat tells BILD. “And I think he has the same qualities.

“He puts in crosses from every angle. Sometimes chipped, sometimes drilled, sometimes flat, sometimes in behind, sometimes to the front post, other times to the back post. His left foot is a real weapon.”
