Non-league star stretchered off after horror injury as stewards forced to make cordon
The National League match between Yeovil Town and Southend was stopped when a player went down with a gruesome injury - and stewards formed a cordon to keep the incident out of the sight of fans
A National League star was stretchered off after a horror injury that forced stewards to make a cordon during Yeovil Town's match against Southend United.
Yeovil Town footballer Alex Fisher went in for a one-on-one with Southend goalkeeper Andeng Ndi, which caused the incident. The Shrimpers stopper dived at Fisher's feet, causing the striker to crash down and seemingly turn his ankle.
The match was subsequently stopped for around seven minutes while Fisher was attended to. And while the Glovers forward received medical assistance, Southend's Head of Medical John Gowens tried to console Ndi who looked distraught at what had happened.

To prevent fans from witnessing the harrowing incident, stewards formed a cordon around Fisher whilst he was being seen to. However, Fisher was eventually carried off the pitch on a stretcher just before the hour mark.
Fisher's exit prompted Yeovil to send him their best wishes on social media. The club's Twitter account wrote after announcing his untimely omission: "Speedy recovery, Fish."
The club's heartwarming message prompted a cascade of supporters to wish Fisher the best while he recovers. One fan wrote, whilst defending Ndi: "Wishing him a speedy recovery, that looks like a proper nasty injury that. Not sure why some Yeovil fans have decided to boo our keeper, clearly not his fault."
Another added: "All the best Alex, that looked really nasty. A third person commented: "Wishing Alex a speedy recovery." Then, a fourth user tweeted: "Alex Fisher may have just broken his ankle. Not good for Yeovil."
Max Hunt came onto replace Fisher, who was taken to hospital for further treatment, BT Sport confirmed. Yeovil were unable to cope with Fisher's absence and lost the National League match 2-0, leaving them languishing in 21st spot.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, league leaders Wrexham smashed the 100-goal, and point barrier with a 5-1 win over Oldham Athletic. And Red Dragons owner Ryan Reynolds crowned his side's victory by declaring: "Playing angry today," on social media.
