Wes Brown tells Erik ten Hag who Manchester United should sign this summer

The Man United boss has overseen two successful windows so far and is set to make more additions this summer

Wes Brown has praised Erik ten Hag's first season of recruitment at Manchester United but knows the Dutchman will want to strengthen further this summer.

Ten Hag has overseen two largely successful transfer windows during his first year in charge, drip-feeding a winning mentality into the squad without demanding a major overhaul. Last summer in particular saw the likes of Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez signed from Real Madrid and Ajax respectively, the pair among United's best players this season.

The Reds also acted decisively in January to strengthen vulnerable areas of the squad, Wout Weghorst signing on loan from Burnley to replace the departed Cristiano Ronaldo while Marcel Sabitzer joined as cover for the injured Christian Eriksen.

With those new additions improving the squad without disrupting the chemistry, Ten Hag has led United to the Carabao Cup trophy as well as a strong chance for a top-four finish. The Reds are also into the latter stages of the FA Cup and Europa League, proof of the Dutchman's strength in recruitment.

Speaking to MEN Sport at a Premier League Kicks campaign, Brown said: “It’s his first season and you’ve already seen what he’s done to the team, the players he’s brought in.

"We’ve already got one cup and we’re still in two other cups and in a very nice position in the league to qualify for the Champions League as well.

"He’s been excellent and I’m sure in the summer he’ll want to bring additions in but I’m sure he’s someone that everybody realises can do a lot for the club.”

He added: “I know he [ETH] likes De Jong so would maybe help to start there.”

Wes Brown was speaking to the MEN as part of the Premier League Kicks campaign, which has supported hundreds of thousands of young people to achieve their potential and improve their wellbeing through free weekly football, sport or workshop activity.

Last week the Premier League celebrated one million hours of Premier League Kicks delivery. The league’s flagship community programme has supported hundreds of thousands of young people to achieve their potential and improve their wellbeing through free weekly football, sport or workshop activity.
