Kris Commons skewers Rangers 'empty jerseys' as Ibrox A-listers told your time is up amid 'rotten' form

The former Celtic man pulled no punches over the marquee Ibrox names who are way below their best.

Former Celtic star Kris Commons believes Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are pale imitations of their former glories as they near free agency.

The Rangers duo have been the club's key attacking tandem over the past five seasons but both are struggling for goals and form with just weeks remaining on their Ibrox contracts. And Commons reckons the only reason the Ibrox board would offer them fresh terms is to mitigate losing them for free as their deals near their conclusion. The consensus is Morelos' colourful stint in Glasgow is nearing the end game while there's more uncertainty over what comes next for former Liverpool man Kent.

But Commons is under no doubt. Writing in his Daily Mail column, he said: "If Rangers fans needed any further proof, this was confirmation that Morelos is now a shadow of the player he was a couple of years ago. He was absolutely miles off it and so was Ryan Kent. These are two guys who are supposed to be Rangers' biggest attacking threats, but they were empty jerseys again on Saturday.

"Morelos and Kent are living off former glories. They are not offering any value to this Rangers team with their performances on the pitch. With their contracts set to expire in the summer, neither of them are doing anything that would warrant an extension. The only reason you would have to offer them a new deal is the fact you don't want to see two of your supposed best players leaving on a free. There was a time a couple of years ago when Morelos and Kent were being jointly valued at around £30million. To see both of them walk out the door on a free would just typify some of the poor decisions being made behind the scenes at Rangers.

"But that's a different argument, one based on finance. If you look at it purely from a footballing point of view, neither Morelos nor Kent actually deserve a new deal. They've been rotten for months."
