Rangers star Scott Arfield opens up on the move he’d love to make after Ibrox

SCOTT ARFIELD is one of a number of Rangers players with contracts expiring this summer.

The midfielder penned a one-year extension last season to play his fifth campaign with the Gers.

But while a question mark hangs over his long-term future at Ibrox beyond his current deal the Canadian international has already looked beyond life in the top flight.

The 34-year-old from Livingston says there is an SPFL club he'd love to move to at some stage before he steps back from the game altogether.

And one thing he wouldn't miss seeing again is a Rangers team-mate's clobber!

Speaking to Sunsport's A-Z, Arfield opened up on his plans for the future, his downtime and gave fans a glimpse behind the curtain at the Ibrox dressing room.

He explained he would love a crack at management - or as a player - back at his old club Falkirk.

Arfield left the Bairns in 2010 and moved to Huddersfield for £400,000 - but he'd love a return.

He said: "I loved it and they gave me the chance to live my dream.

"I hope one day, in a playing or managerial capacity, to go back to the club. They gave me a chance as a youngster and I won’t forget that.

"They had no money, so they had to promote youngsters.

"I wish some other teams would go down a similar path. There are a lot of good players in the Scottish game, but they need a chance."

Arfield is a big music fan, with a sleeve tattoo dedicated to his hobby and can belt out a few tunes himself - he used to be part of the band - The Begbies.

And he admitted: "I quite enjoy writing songs.

"I can play the guitar and I would like to think I’m OK. If I’m trying to get the party going I pull out a bit of Valerie or a wee bit of Crocodile Rock by Elton John.

"I love my music, so I have the full sleeve and it’s mostly to do with
that. There are guitars, mics, musical notes. I also have the area I grew up in Knightsridge and the number 37 as well as two cards."

Arfield's good friends with midfield colleagues Steven Davis and John Lundstram and John Souttar too - but he took a cheeky swipe at Todd Cantwell's dress sense.

He joked: "Genuinely, he has the worst clothes I have ever seen.

"He is always in really bright colours and they must get sent to him. There is no way you would buy that gear in a shop."

And quizzed on the moaners in the Rangers dressing room he added: "It has to be a three-way tie between Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson and James Tavernier. Between them there is always something upsetting them.

"Connor Goldson loves the sound of his own voice.

"But if I was picking a quiz team I’d want Allan McGregor.

"He gets a bit of stick sometimes, but he is a very intelligent guy.

"If I had to pick one of the boys I wouldn’t want it would
be Rabbi Matondo."
