Hearts star Robert Snodgrass set for stunning imminent EXIT from Tynecastle

ROBERT SNODGRASS has almost certainly played his last game for Hearts.

SunSport understands the former Scotland star is heading for a stunning exit head on the heels of Robbie Neilson’s shock sacking.

It’s understood talks are on-going to reach agreement over the final two months of his Jambos deal and an announcement from the club on his departure could be close.

It’s also believed that new interim boss Steven Naismith was quickly made aware of the possibility and had no issues with it.

Snodgrass was sent off in Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren which proved the last straw for the board over Neilson’s future – a fourth straight league defeat, fifth in six matches, which allowed Aberdeen to leapfrog Hearts into third spot with seven games left of the season.

The 35-year-old arrived last September on a free transfer and has since made 25 appearances with 23 starts, scoring once.

Neilson, meanwhile, has broken his silence following his own departure at the weekend.

His three-year spell in charge was brought to a dramatic end with the Jambos on that horror run of form.

In a statement released via the LMA, he said: "In a statement released through the LMA, Neilson said: "I would like to thank Ann Budge and all of the board for giving me the opportunity to manage Heart of Midlothian over the past three seasons.

"We built a fantastic relationship and I will always have the utmost respect for them.

“My thanks also to the players and staff for their hard work and dedication. I have enjoyed working with you all and seeing you develop as both a team and as individuals. To my assistants, Lee McCulloch and Gordon Forrest, thank you for your unwavering support and dedication.

“Everything we achieved together, winning the Championship, two Scottish Cup finals, a third placed finish and securing European group stage football was with the superb support of the Hearts fans and the Foundation of Hearts. I thank you all for that. I am immensely proud of what we were able to achieve together. It has been an honour to be your manager.

“I would like to wish everybody at the club the very best of luck as they seek to finish the season strongly and build on the strong foundations already in place.

“I’m now looking forward to having a chance to reflect, recharge and prepare for the next opportunity."
