Manchester City have one foot in the Champions League semi-final after storming to a 3-0 win over Bayern Munich - and they have Dayot Upamecano largely to thank.

The French defender was all over the shop at the Etihad and struggled to contend with the blistering energy of City's attackers, and it was his costly error that allowed Bernardo Silva to put the home side 2-0 up and effectively kill the game midway through the second half.

While attempting to dribble out from the back, Upamecano was dispossessed by Jack Grealish, who then backheeled the ball into the path of a marauding Erling Haaland.

Haaland then galloped into the huge space left exposed by Upamecano before chipping the ball to the back post for Silva to nod home.

"What on earth is Upamecano playing at?? He's been woeful all game," one fan tweeted in response, with another writing: "Upamecano disasterclass."

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher also chimed in, tweeting: "Upamecano plays ahead of Konate for France," along with an exploding head emoji.

Fans thought the 24-year-old could've done better on City's third goal too after he lost track of Haaland, who poked home at the back post to net his 45th goal of the season. Meanwhile, Rodri opened the scoring in the first half with a sensational curler from outside the box on his weaker foot.

The victory leaves City on the brink of their third-successive Champions League semi-final appearance, with the winners of Real Madrid vs Chelsea awaiting them in the last four.

Upamecano joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021. He's been more-or-less ever-present in the side since his arrival and has formed a particularly impressive partnership with Matthijs de Ligt this season - though you wouldn't have known it tonight!
