Neil Lennon claims Celtic hero Henrik Larsson was worth £100m as Parkhead legend compared to Cristiano Ronaldo

The transfer market has gone mad and Lennon reckons Celtic would be fetching nine figures for Larsson nowadays given what Darwin Nunez went for.

Neil Lennon reckons Henrik Larsson would go for £100MILLION in today's market - if Liverpool's price tag for Darwin Nunez is anything to go by.

Lennon teamed up with Larsson at Celtic and got a first-hand view of one of the greatest players ever to grace the Scottish game. Larsson's seven years at Parkhead saw him net an incredible 242 goals in 313 games and he stands at fourth on the list of all-time top scorers in top flight history.

The later years of Larsson's career were mixed though he went on to play for two of the biggest clubs in the world in Barcelona and Manchester United after leaving Parkhead on a free. But the four league titles he won at Celtic Park have seen him go down as one of the greats and Lennon reckons he'd be one of the most expensive players around if he was in his pomp today. Liverpool paid £75m to sign Nunez from Benfica and on that benchmark, Lennon rates his former teammate as a £100m player.

Speaking to Boylesports he said: "Henrik from his peak, so the ages of 28 onwards, you would be talking about £100million plus comfortably. I really like Darwin Nunez at Liverpool, he wouldn’t be as prolific as Henrik, and he was £75m.

"So you would easily need to talk more for Henrik because of his ratio of goals to games. Henrik left Celtic on a free to join Barcelona and he more or less scored in every game when he played for them. He came on in the Champions League final against Arsenal in 2006 and changed the game. Then he went to Man United - at the age of about 35, 36 - and he wins the Premier League.

"The guy had everything, he was world class and I was fortunate enough to play with him for four or five years. Every time you sat in the dressing room, you would look at him and just know you had a chance in the game because he could score with either foot and he was unbelievable in the air. He used to hang like Cristiano Ronaldo, bearing in mind he wasn’t a particularly tall guy and didn’t have rippling shoulder muscles."
