Pundit Mark Lawrenson believes Aston Villa will fall to a 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United on Saturday (April 15).

Villa host Eddie Howe's Magpies in the lunchtime kick-off as Unai Emery's men look to close the gap on the top five with eight games left of the season.

Both teams are on a great run of form, with Newcastle having won five in a row and Villa unbeaten in seven Premier League outings.

In his regular predictions column for Paddy Power, Lawrenson wrote: "I’m going to go for Newcastle to win, they’re really going for that top four spot and they’re back in a really good run. Aston Villa have also done really well but they’re probably due a defeat. Aston Villa 1-2 Newcastle."

He agrees with fellow pundit Chris Sutton, who has also tipped Newcastle to pick up a 2-1 win. "Both of these teams are in such good form - Aston Villa have won their past four games, while Newcastle are on a run of five wins in a row," Sutton predicted this week.

"The obvious result is a draw, but I am actually going to keep on backing Newcastle because I was really impressed with their second-half display at Brentford last week.

"I really admire what Unai Emery has done at Villa too, and they have enough firepower to cause the Magpies problems here but I just feel like Newcastle's quality will edge it."
