Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson red carded after accusing Barnet goalkeeper of 'cheating' in heated clash
The game against the Bees finished 0-0 but after an earlier red card things got a little heated after the full-time whistle
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson was shown a red card after the match following a heated clash exchange with Barnet goalkeeper Laurie Walker.
The National League match between Wrexham and Barnet ended 0-0 at the Hive, a pretty flat affair save a 51st-minute red card for Callum McFadzean.
The Wrexham player was given his marching orders for leaving his foot in on Barnet stopper Walker after the goalkeeper had come out to collect a loose ball in the box.
Referee Ed Walker felt he had no choice but to send the 29-year-old McFadzean off, but Parkinson felt the Bees goalkeeper had made a meal of the contact he felt.
McFadzean's leg appeared to catch Walker's head on the way through while challenging for the ball, but a second camera angle seemed to show the winger's studs just catch the top of his opponent's head while coming through.
Parkinson, though, was pretty clear in his mind what had happened.
"That's a soft red card," Parkinson said after the match. "I can't see that. It's his trailing leg, there is no real intent there. For me, he has got it wrong and the keeper made a meal of it and that influences the referee's decision. When you go down to 10 men, a point is good. I always felt there might be a moment for us, but it didn't come. The lads have dug deep and put in a strong performance against a good side."
Walker, meanwhile, lifted the lid on the accusations which came his way from Parkinson in the post-match melee.
"He was basically trying to say I was cheating," Walker said. "But I'm sure, as you guys can see at home, he has come through and kicked me straight in the face. That's all I'm going to say on it."
Wrexham need six points from their final three games to guarantee promotion to League Two, with their closest promotion contenders, Notts County, set to take on Woking at 5.30pm on Saturday.
Parkinson's side welcome Yeovil Town to the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday. Parkinson will serve a one-match ban for that game following his red card at the Hive.
