Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson was sent off after a heated clash with the Barnet goalkeeper following his side's latest match.

Parkinson was involved in an altercation with Laurie Walker at full-time on Saturday following a goalless draw between Barnet and Wrexham in the National League. Walker later claimed that Parkinson had accused him of cheating during the match as Wrexham's Callum McFadzean was sent off in the 51st minute at The Hive.

McFadzean was handed his marching orders by referee Edward Duckworth for a challenge on Walker which saw the Wrexham man's boot strike the keeper in the face.

At full-time, Parkinson could be seen making his way over to Walker, pointing at the Barnet stopper as he made his feelings known.

Walker appeared perplexed before players from both sides swarmed around the pair in an attempt to diffuse the situation. However, Parkinson did not avoid punishment as the referee brandished a red card before the Wrexham boss applauded the travelling supporters.

Parkinson did not hold back in his post-match interview, telling BT Sport: "I’m not happy with the role the referee played in the sending off first of all. I mean, that’s a soft red card.

"I just can’t see, that’s his trailing leg, there’s no real intent there and for me he’s got it wrong. I think their keeper made a meal of it in all honesty and obviously that influences the referee’s decision."

The post-match red card means Parkinson will likely be serving a touchline ban as his side host Yeovil Town in their next match on Tuesday night.

Wrexham need just six points from their remaining three league matches this season after Saturday's draw extended their lead at the top of the table to four points. Nearest challengers Notts County can cut the gap against Woking later in the day, though.

The 0-0 draw at Barnet followed a dramatic Easter Monday victory against Notts County as Wrexham beat their promotion rivals 3-2 thanks to a stoppage time penalty save from Ben Foster.
