Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben have urged Newcastle United and the Toon Army to move on from a 'bad day at the office' in the defeat to Aston Villa. The Magpies co-owners both took to social media after Eddie Howe's side fell to a heavy defeat at Villa Park on Saturday lunchtime.

Both teams went into the contest in good form, but an early Jacob Ramsey strike and a second-half brace from Ollie Watkins sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory for the hosts. Newcastle remain third in the table, although they will be leapfrogged by Manchester United if the Red Devils avoid defeat at Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

It is only a fourth Premier League defeat of the campaign for the Magpies, and a rare poor display in what has otherwise been a stunning campaign to date. Ghodoussi praised Villa for their performance, and urged the team and supporters to 'focus' upon next week's home clash with top-four rivals Tottenham.

He posted: "Bad day at the office. Congratulations to Villa on a great performance. We move on and focus on next week."

It was a similar message from Reuben, who stressed the Magpies have 'given everything' over the course of the season. The defeat ended a run of five straight victories for Howe's side, and the co-owner is confident the team will bounce back from the disappointment.

Reuben posted: "Not the result or performance we wanted and credit to Aston Villa but this team have given everything over recent weeks/ season. Sometimes it doesn’t quite work on the day and no doubt we will come back focused and stronger."
