Tahith Chong believes Birmingham City need to improve their in-game management after failing to respond to going behind against Blackpool.


Blues stumbled to a 1-0 defeat to the relegation battling Tangerines at St Andrew’s on Saturday. Ian Poveda accepted a gift from Blues defender Kevin Long to seal three precious points for the visitors in their quest to beat the drop.


Chong - who was withdrawn with 12 minutes remaining by John Eustace - believes Blues’ players need to become better problem solvers.

“As a team you have a chance to improve at half-time and you have teams where they sort everything out during the game,” he said. “When you concede a goal, there’s teams that can just improve on the pitch. That’s where we could improve, game management and dealing with setbacks during the game and not wait for half-time or the end of the game.

“It’s something we can improve on going forward as a team. Sometimes that’s not up to the manager, it’s up to us. We’re on the pitch, we see everything. It’s for us to improve during the game.”

Blues were targeting a victory to secure their best Championship points tally since the 2015/16. Eustace’s team need one point from their final two fixtures against Coventry City and Sheffield United to achieve that feat.

“The changing room is very disappointed,” added Chong. “The way the game went, we felt we should have scored as well. We had a few chances to score and the manner we lost the game eventually is very disappointing.
