Lee Bowyer tipped for Premier League job after Birmingham City sack

Birmingham City parted company with Lee Bowyer at the end of last season and he was replaced by John Eustace - he has been tipped to return to Leeds United

Leeds United are said to be seriously considering the future of their manager Javi Gracia amid the Premier League relegation battle - and reports suggest that former Birmingham City boss Lee Bowyer is being considered as a potential alternative for Leeds' remaining matches in their quest for survival.

Leeds have won three of their 12 matches to date under Gracia, who was appointed a little over two months ago, including five defeats in their last seven and it's form which has them bang in the relegation dogfight with just four matches left to play. The Whites have been hit for four by Arsenal and, this past weekend, Bournemouth, and have received hefty losses from Crystal Palace, who scored five, and Liverpool who netted six.

It's form which has left Gracia, remarkably, already in trouble as regards to his job security and Leeds are considering another quick turnaround in the managerial hotseat - what would be their third of the season - in the hope that it might bring a 'bounce' and enough of a points accumulation that they might avoid relegation.

Bowyer, who has been out of work since leaving Blues in the summer of 2022 having helped them to maintain their Championship status for two campaigns on the trot, played for Leeds between 1996 and 2003 - and in that time he played Champions League football, as the club reached the semi finals of the competition in 2001.

“I’ve been out to my lake in France doing a bit of maintenance,” Bowyer told talkSPORT earlier this year. “On the football side of things, I’m waiting. I’m waiting for the right job to come along because I love football and I love passing on my knowledge. I’ve worked with top players, I’ve worked against top players and against top managers. I’ve learned a lot and I want to keep passing it on and improving players.”

The Daily Mail report that he could have a call coming his way, though; Leeds' remaining league games are against Man City, Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham. They currently sit a point above the bottom three ahead of Leicester City v Everton on Monday night.
