'WE HAD TO CALM DOWN'

I had to stop a BUST-UP in my dressing room before we won Championship title, reveals Dundee boss Gary Bowyer

GARY BOWYER has revealed how he had to stop a half-time bust-up to spark Dundee’s Championship title win.

The Dens Park side beat Queen’s Park 5-3 on Friday to seal promotion back to the Premiership.

Boss Bowyer admits tempers flared after the Spiders levelled on half-time — but his players cooled down for the second half and clinched the trophy.

He said: “We had to calm them down first because there were one or two having words with each other.

“We said, ‘We’re OK, we just need to tweak a few things’.

“We conceded three goals from set-plays, which is unlike us.

“So we spoke about how we felt we could exploit them. What a crazy game, ridiculous!

“The players were unbelievable and I can’t speak highly enough of them.

“The majority were relegated last season and had to change their mindset, but the way they reacted was unbelievable.”

For Queen's Park, attention now turns to the Premiership play-offs.

The Spiders will play Partick Thistle in the first leg of the quarter-final on Tuesday May 9 at Firhill, with the return leg at Ochilview on Friday May 12.

The winners of that tie will face Ayr United, who ended up finishing second in the table, in the semi-final on Friday May 19 (first leg) and Friday May 26 (second leg). All of those fixtures will be broadcast live on BBC Scotland.

The victors will then earn the right to play whoever finishes second-bottom in the Premiership, with a place in the top flight at stake.

Elsewhere on a chaotic final day in the second tier, Cove Rangers were relegated and Hamilton were confined to the relegation play-offs.

Accies will face either Falkirk, Airdrie or Alloa Athletic from League One.

Meanwhile, Scotland star Kevin Nisbet was watched by THREE English Championship clubs today.

The striker was in action for Hibs against St Mirren, helping the Easter Road side to a 2-1 win.

Millwall are ready to return with a bid for the 26-year-old and Blackburn are also interested in his services but now Hibs boss Lee Johnson's old team Bristol City are understood to be extremely keen on signing Nisbet.
