England climb up to sixth in the latest FIFA world rankings following their charge to the World Cup semi-finals, with Germany dropping 14 places.

England have climbed six places to sixth in the latest FIFA world rankings following their charge to the semi-finals of the World Cup this summer.

Gareth Southgate's men exceeded expectations by reaching the last four in Russia, where they were beaten 2-1 by Croatia, who have risen to fourth.

Newly-crowned world champions France are the new top-ranked team, with Belgium second and South Americans Brazil third.

Former number-one ranked team Germany have suffered a dramatic fall, though, plummeting 14 places courtesy of their group-stage exit from the competition.

European champions Portugal are seventh, with Lionel Messi's Argentina dropping down to 11th as Switzerland, Spain and Denmark make up the top 10.

World Cup hosts Russia, who also had a surprise run to the semi-finals, are the biggest climbers, having risen 21 places up to 49th.

England next face Spain at Wembley in the UEFA Nations League on September 8.
