GARY'S GONE

Gary Bowyer LEAVES Dundee in shock move just five days after clinching title

GARY BOWYER has departed as Dundee manager less than a week after winning the Championship title.

The 51-year old was appointed last summer and tasked with returning the Dee back to the top division at the first time of asking.

Bowyer completed that task, with Dundee going up as champions after last Friday's incredible 5-3 win over Queen's Park - just FIVE days ago.

However, just an HOUR after he was confirmed as the Scottish Championship Manager of the Season, the Dens Park club have announced the shock exit of their boss.

Assistant Billy Barr has also left.

Dundee chief John Nelms said:  “Given the importance of the weeks and months ahead, I felt it was necessary to ensure we are all aligned on the direction needed to ensure the club is ready for its return to the Premiership.”

“On behalf of everyone at the club, not least our fans, we wish Gary the best for the future and reiterate our thanks for his achievements in the past year.

The recruitment process for Bowyer's successor will be overseen by Gordon Strachan.

The former Celtic and Scotland boss is the managing and technical director at the club.

SunSport revealed earlier this week that Bowyer had been lined up for a surprise return to former club Blackpool.

We also told how former St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson would be in the frame for a quickfire return to football should Bowyer move on.

Davidson, 46, previously worked with Strachan within the Scotland national setup and he'd be keen to rekindle that partnership.

He was dismissed by the Saints last month after three years in charge at McDiarmid Park.
