Manchester United’s Marc Skinner has been awarded April’s Barclays Manager of the Month following four stellar performances that led to four back-to-back wins in all competitions.

April started with Skinner leading his side to a convincing 4-0 win over Brighton to bolster United’s chances of clinching the Women’s Super League title. The following weekend saw a back-to-back clash between United and the Seagulls in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-finals.

A nail-biting game that ended in Skinner’s favour after Rachel Williams fired the ball home a minute before full-time to edge Brighton to United’s first-ever FA Cup final with the modest response of "haven't won anything yet".

It was back to WSL duty for the United manager who had three days to prepare for WSL heavyweights Arsenal. Most football fans will remember this tie as the night the Gunners and England captain Leah Williamson collapsed to the floor in agony and despair. But Skinner will remember it as another milestone closer to the domestic double dream when Alessia Russo scored the only goal of the game before the half-time whistle.

Skinner’s quest for the league title started slipped slowly out of grasp in the 90 minutes against Aston Villa at the end of the month, but a rousing halftime talk, roaring fans and an unwavering belief in his players paid dividends.

Post-match he said: “We didn’t just get out, we broke out of jail. We do not give up. When your chips are down you have to find different ways to score and we have the ability to do that.” Super-sub Millie Turner nodded home the winning goal and keeps the domestic-double dream alive.

What a dramatic month for United manager Marc Skinner.
