Tottenham are the latest club to show an interest in Marseille midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi but Aston Villa are in pole position to complete a £30m deal this summer.

According to football journalist Mohamed Toubache on Twitter, Newcastle are also keen on the 24-year-old but highlighted why Villa have the edge should they wish to sign him.

One is that Guendouzi has a good relationship with Villa boss Unai Emery having worked under him at Arsenal which led to the midfielder hailing him 'unique' after Emery led Villareal to Europa League success against Manchester United.

And secondly, Guendouzi is a former Marseille team-mate of Boubacar Kamara who is also at Villa. It is claimed that Marseille are seeking around £30m for Guendouzi and he is expected to leave this summer.

Tabouche said: "Tottenham desires Matteo Guendouzi. Newcastle did not let go but Aston Villa have two major advantages in the person of Unai Emery & @boubaKamara_4. Olympique de Marseille is hoping for €32 million, bonus included!!"

The midfielder, who has two years remaining on his contract, has attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs including West Ham United after a string of excellent performances which has seen him score five goals and register five assists.

But recently Igor Tudor has not picked him to start recently which is only going to increase speculation about his future.
