Arsenal legend Tony Adams apologised for being "too miserable" during a half-time rant in the Gunners' defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Adams was a pundit at the City Ground for Arsenal's title-deciding game against Forest which ultimately saw Manchester City confirmed as champions after Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal made it back-to-back defeats for the north Londoners.

Arsenal were beaten 3-0 at home by Brighton & Hove Albion before heading to Nottingham as Mikel Arteta’s side’s form deserted them at the crucial point in the season.

Speaking during his half-time analysis alongside former Forest defender Michael Dawson, Adams embarked on a rant at his confusion at what he watched from his beloved Arsenal in the first half. He said: “He’s gone with (Thomas) Partey and (Jakub) Kiwor and it was a three on two situation and they’re waiting for Arsenal, they’re doing it very well Forest.

“They counter-attack and you can’t be sloppy, that ball by Odegaard was a sloppy ball. They’re just waiting to pounce on that kind of thing.”

Adams was keen to draw attention to Arteta’s line-up which saw Partey and Kiwor feature as unfamiliar full-backs following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s injury and Ben White shuffled into centre-back. Adams continued: “I’ve been really disappointed, football is about relationships you know.

“I’d have loved to have played with Michael (Dawson) back in the day, but Ben White has been brilliant with (Bukayo) Saka on the right-hand side and all of a sudden he’s gone to put Partey in there and we’ve got (Kieran) Tierney on the bench, what is Arteta trying?

“That team selection is saying to me do we want Partey to play there next season?

“Do we want Ben (White) to play central defender? Kiwor, is he a left-back?

“I don’t get it to be honest with you and they’ve exposed us again and again and again, they’ll wait for the counter-attack, oh I’m getting too miserable with this I’m so sorry.

“But they were just waiting for that, we’re playing into their hands, we’ve kept it fairly quiet you know you do need to keep the ball to keep the crowd down.

“But sloppy balls like that, you’ve given them a leg. You can’t come away from home and give teams leg-ups.”

Adams won four English top-flight titles at Arsenal including lifting two Premier League titles as captain in 1998 and 2002.

But the 56-year-old will have to wait even longer to see another Arsenal skipper get their hands on the title following this year’s capitulation.
