Chris Sutton ridicules Kenny Miller over his Rangers vs Celtic ‘toe to toe’ claim

CHRIS SUTTON has taken aim at Kenny Miller after the former striker claimed Rangers have gone "toe to toe" with Celtic since Michael Beale joined the club.

The Englishman was appointed Ibrox gaffer in November and has faced off against Ange Postecoglou and his Hoops team five times since his arrival.

Beale bagged his first Old Firm win over Celtic last week in a meaningless game as the Parkhead club already had the Premiership title in the bag after securing it with four games left to play.

Celtic can now clinch a world record eighth Treble if they beat Inverness Caley Thistle in the Scottish Cup final next month.

But Miller believes the gap between the Old Firm clubs has been closed under Beale, despite the Hoops lifting all three trophies this season.

And Sutton has since responded to Miller's comments, mocking him over the fact Celtic won when it really mattered.

Sutton tweeted: "Toe to toe = drew league game that really mattered at home, lost League Cup final, lost Scottish Cup semi-final, lost league game that really really mattered … won meaningless dead rubber… everyone’s toe to toe is different in fairness to Kenny."

Speaking about the Old Firm gap over the weekend, Miller told BBC Sportscene: "What it means is that Rangers are on track to finish the season on some level of a high.

"There were two defeats pre-split against Aberdeen in the league fixture and to Celtic in the semi-final. Well, they have bounced back by avenging that defeat to Aberdeen and with a fantastic win over Celtic last week.

"A real, positive, convincing win over their rivals. It has gave them a chance to finish with five wins in a row. It has gave them a chance - with Michael's time in charge - to actually finish with more points to finish with more points than Ange and Celtic have.

"I know it's slight consolation but what it has shown is that over a decent sample size - 20 odd games - that Michael Beale's side have went toe-to-toe with Celtic with the points they have gained."
