Goalkeeper Jose Sa is reportedly open to leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer transfer window.

Goalkeeper Jose Sa is reportedly giving consideration to leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.

In 2021, Sa was signed as the replacement for Rui Patricio, earning a transfer to Molineux through keeping 62 clean sheets from 124 appearances for Olympiacos.

The move has generally proved to be a success, the Portuguese keeping 22 shutouts from his 72 outings in the Premier League.

However, the 30-year-old has made a number of notable errors during his time at Wolves, the most recent when conceding a penalty at Leicester City on April 22 when Wolves held a 1-0 advantage.

Since then, Sa has kept clean sheets against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, efforts which came either side of shipping six times in a heavy defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Sa had been an ever-present in league fixtures during 2022-23 until Julen Lopetegui opted to hand game time to David Bentley once Wolves had secured their Premier League status for another 12 months.

Although Bentley was at fault for Everton's last-gasp equaliser at the weekend, he impressed on his debut at Manchester United in the previous game, giving Lopetegui food for thought ahead of next season.

Nevertheless, according to Football Insider, Sa will not necessarily be at Wolves in the long term having been left frustrated in recent weeks.

The report claims that Sa is unhappy over criticism from supporters, a result of mistakes which have arguably cost Wolves valuable points, when he has excelled during other times of his stay in the West Midlands.

Sa is now allegedly toying with the idea of moving to a different club, the likelihood being that he will not be short of offers having been Portugal's third-choice stopper at the 2022 World Cup.

While it is unclear whether Wolves would be open to a sale, making a profit on the €8m that they paid two years ago could be viewed as an attractive proposition.

Wolves need to boost their position with FFP this summer before Lopetegui can make progress with strengthening his squad, something which he is keen to do as soon as possible.

Jonny, Joao Moutinho and Raul Jimenez are all expected to depart either for cut-price fees or on free transfers, while Ruben Neves is again being heavily linked with an exit.
