Ianis Hagi is tailor made for Spanish football according to superstar dad Gheorghe.

The Rangers star has returned to fitness after a mega injury layoff and netted his first goal for 16 months in the recent 3-1 victory over Hibs at Easter Road. The Romanian is committed to staying at Ibrox after he penned a new contract last year which will keep him in Glasgow until 2025.

But his legendary father, who started for giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, told Marca that Hagi Jr would be well suited to playing in Spain. Links to Galatasaray, where Hagi snr became a club legend have persisted. Hagi was born in Istanbul while his father was starring in Turkey, but a switch closer to home would suit his son's style the most, according to the Romania icon. Hagi senior said: "He's had a difficult year, but I've seen him doing well again in the last few months.

"He's started to play again, he's started some games at Rangers now and he's feeling good. Hopefully, he can continue as he was before. I played in Spain for many years and hopefully, one day, Ianis can go too. He is happy at Rangers, but football in Spain would be good for him".
