It seems Conor Coady won’t be short of suitors if Wolves decide he’s not in their plans for next season.

The 30-year-old central defender’s future is up in the air after Everton decided not to trigger a £4.5m clause to buy him at the end of his season-long loan at Goodison Park. And Coady has reflected on his own situation by stressing he loves Wolves and has been talking to the club throughout the season.

Coady has made 317 appearances for Wolves but was loaned out to Everton last August after it became apparent he wasn’t in the plans of the then-manager Bruno Lage.

He remains under contract at Molineux but, with his future uncertain, the Daily Mail reports that Wolves Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United are both keen on him.

They say Coady is a target for Forest and, although the Blades are also interested, Steve Cooper’s side are more likely to match the defender’s financial terms.

The former Wolves captain made clear his respect for the club this week and said he expects a decision on his future soon.

He made 25 appearances for Everton last season as he rarely featured following Sean Dyche’s appointment in January - but did start the crucial final day game at home to Bournemouth as a 1-0 win kept Everton in the Premier League.

The defence was the strongest part of the Wolves team last season, certainly under Julen Lopetegui who built from the back following his arrival in November to ensure they stayed up, even though they were the lowest scorers in the Premier League with just 31 goals.

That was based on a back four rather than the back three in which Coady has thrived. Lopetegui successfully partnered Max Kilman with January signing Craig Dawson at the heart of the defence and was rewarded as Wolves secured a 13th -placed finish having been bottom of the table when he was appointed.

But Wolves need to raise funds to strengthen their squad if they are to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. Selling Coady would raise some funds although more would be raised by selling Max Kilman if reports of interest materialises.
