Barcelona 'plead with Man United target and £52m-rated Monaco right-back Vanderson to wait a YEAR to join' as they can't afford him this summer amid financial restrictions
- Barcelona manager Xavi is keen to bring in the talented Monaco full-back
- Club's financial situation and interest in others make summer deal improbable
- Barca hierarchy working on persuading player to stay another year in Ligue 1
Barcelona are reportedly mounting a charm offensive to convince Monaco full-back Vanderson to hold off on deciding his future rather than signing with Manchester United this summer.
The 21-year-old is highly sought after by Barcelona manager Xavi, who is keen to strengthen his defence with the arrival of an orthodox right-back.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, the youngster has been earmarked as the perfect recruit, but one whose signing would be beyond their means this summer.
The La Liga champions have continued to be linked with sensational big-money moves for Lionel Messi and Ilkay Gundogan, in spite of their precarious Financial Fair Play position.
As a result, they’ll have to shelf a move for Vanderson until next year with his current club demanding in excess of £50m for his sale.

Erik ten Hag is currently after other targets but could reignite interest later in the window
However, there remains a concern that Manchester United, who are also interested in the Brazilian, could swoop and sign the player in this window.
Though United have identified targets in other positions as priorities and are working on deals to bring Mason Mount and an elite striker to the club, a move for the youngster may not be far behind.
Barcelona are at least convinced enough of Manchester United’s intention to pursue Vanderson this summer that Sport claim the club are trying to persuade the rising star to ignore the overtures of the Red Devils and spend another season in Ligue 1.
At which point the Catalan giants hope they’ll be in a better financial position to snap up the highly-rated defender.
